Formaldehyde is a naturally-occurring organic compound with the formula CH2O. It is general aldehyde and is also known by formalin/methanol. Formic Acid is the common name from where other name has been evaluated. Formaldehyde is an important precursor to many other materials and chemical compounds. It is mainly used in the production of industrial resins, for the manufacture of particle boards and in the coating industry.

Uses

• Formaldehyde is widely used in the manufacture of amino and phenol resins, cellulosic fabrics, chemicals, inks, glass mirrors, disinfectant, germicide and fungicide for plants and vegetables, slow-release fertilizer photo polymers and urea.
• Formaldehyde is also used in the manufacture of explosives, photographic materials, in treatment of pulp and papers, in treatment of fur and hair, mouth wash, germicidal soap, lavender water and cologne, in sterilization of surgical instruments, preservative in food and cosmetics industries and used to preserve human and animal remains.
• Formaldehyde is used in wood product for plywood, particle boards, etc. It is used as a chemical ground in foundations, used in water-based coatings and as moisture resistance in paper. Formaldehyde based resins are used in the natural gas and petroleum industries
• Due to relatively low cost, high purity and variety of chemical reactions Formaldehyde has become one of the most important industrial and research chemicals.
